Principal’s Message 20-21
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. I am excited to begin my 16th year at Riles Middle School, my third as Principal.
This academic year begins with our students participating virtually from home. While we all cannot wait for the day our students and staff can return to campus safely, we are dedicated to provide the absolute best virtual experience possible. Here are some of the strategies we have implemented to better support our staff, students and families in this virtual learning environment.
We have added a Virtual Learning Support Teacher, Sarah Wildman. Ms. Wildman is available to support our entire community with any online platform.
We have made available a Chromebook for every student.
Students were also distributed supplies for each class to support hands on learning at home.
We have redesigned our schedule to best serve our students during distance learning. Students are taking fewer classes to help keep the class load manageable. The daily schedule has also been changed to provide structure for students at home, while also providing breaks throughout the schedule for students to “unplug”.
Every teacher will host office hours daily to help students and families with questions and provide individualized help and instruction.
We will be implementing re-engagement plans for students with excess absences and missing independent work.
The district has provided teachers with training on the digital platforms we are using during distance learning.
The office is open daily to field questions from the community.
Our virtual learning page has been streamlined to better support our students and families.
If you have any questions about distance learning or WCR Middle School in general, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the front office at (916) 787-8100.
